The Dark Tribe..they didn't speak and the mystery lingered. Their kohl-rimmed eyes and graceful gestures left the audience free to dream and there were no bothersome paparazzi to spoil the romance. From the intoxicatingly exotic Theda Bara, Greta Garbo and the other perennially distressed damsels who played opposite Rudolph Valentino to the sweeter but no less mysterious waifs-next-door Lillian Gish and Mary Pickford, vamps of the silver screen could be counted on to be alluring, romantic and sultry but with an innocence carried over from the turn of the century.

Our own heroines have joined the Dark Tribe of silent beauties with thanks to Vadalna's Tribal Dance Troupe of Boston and our wonderful photographer Tim Kennard, now of L.A.
